  • Frankfurt Airport-non cargo cats on long layover- Thai import transit rule 7

Hi-I am new to this forum. International relocation from Canada to Phuket, Thailand with 3 small cats. Flying Lufthansa in economy which allows pets to travel in the cabin. 15 hour layover in Frankfurt. Can't use Animal Lounge as pets are not flying cargo. Want to go to airport hotel to sleep. Potential big problem with Rule 7 of Thailand Department of Livestock Development Importation of Dogs and Cats that states:" The animals are not allowed to be exposed to other animals if they have to be landed in transit at any approved intermediate port. They shall not be allowed to leave the precinct of the port except to an officially approved transit quarantine area." Of course we will keep the cats in their carriers at all times. What exactly does that mean in practical terms and how can we comply? Are we allowed to go with our cats to an airport hotel that is directly connected to the airport like the Sheraton? The only true transit hotel does not allow pets. Does anyone have experience with this? Would be most grateful for any assistance in this matter. Lufthansa was not able to help here.

Germany is not considered a high-rabies country; however, you may want to contact the Quarantine Station at +66 2134 0636 with your question.
