  • Cost to travel from Thailand to France with a cat

hi...i have been in Thailand for a year and have adopted a rescue cat. I want to go home and cant bear to leave my cat behind. Could anyone please advise the best way for my cat to travel,I have a really tight budget, so i mite have to send her alone at the end of november and I stay to work an extra month for my airfare home end of decmber. Of course I would like us to travel at the same time, but if I cant find a cheaper travel option, then she will have to travel ahead of me, but leaving her behind is not an option. Does anyone perhaps know safest and cheapest way to send my cat to France please?

Recula - it is a LOT easier and less expensive to fly with your cat into France. If she flies alone, she will need to fly as air cargo which is much more expensive than in-cabin or accompanied checked baggage. Also, the regulations are much easier when you enter France with your cat. See step #5 here: VAT should be less as well.

It's best to travel with your pup at the same time in the cargo or cabin. Many airlines have the pet travel policy, but they are different from companies and destinations. For example, Thailand only allows guide dog or asistance dog entering into cabin. Other pets have to stay in the cargo. You could read the regulations in its official website.

A part of "pet travel policy" in Air France:
      1. With prior approval from customer service, you can transport a dog or a cat weighing no more than 8 kg / 17 lb (including bag) in the cabin.
      2. Your pet must be at least 10 weeks old and have all required vaccines.
      3. Travel in the cabin for snub-nosed animals. In high-stress situations, snub-nosed animals, such as pugs, bulldogs, boxers, Pekingese, Shih Tzu or Persian cats, are prone to respiratory problems. Please first obtain advice from your vet.
      4. Your dog or cat must travel in a special closed travel bag that does not exceed 46 x 28 x 24 cm / 18 x 11 x 9 in. For your comfort on board, Air France recommends that you use a flexible bag.
      5. Your animal must have all required vaccines in order to be permitted on board. (more pet rules of AIR FRANCE:

      You should know that:
      1. Most of the assistance animals travel in the cabin for free.
      2. You have to book the ticket early and confirm that whether your airline allows pet. (at least 48 hours before the flight) Because every flight will limit the limit of animals in the cabin.
      3. Many airlines in EU allow service dogs and emotional support dogs/cats flying with the owner. Call them to make sure it is okay and the documents you should prepare (such as service dog/esa certification or esa letter.
