Flying with our dog this Xmas

Hello everyone! We have a 19lb terrier mix and we'll be flying with her for the first time this holiday season. We bought this carrier to fly with: http://www.amazon.com/Petco-Expand-A-Space-Carrier-Black-Large/dp/B00593QKJS

The dimensions of the carrier are 19x11x12, and the maximum dimensions according to United's website are 18x11x11.

It's a soft carrier, and can therefore squish and be flexible. But how strict are the airlines typically? Do they literally measure the carriers before letting them on board? We've looked at the slightly smaller ones and they are just a little too snug for our dog--she would not be able to, as the airlines require, stand up and turn around. As it is, she hardly can do that in this carrier.

So, we're wondering, what experiences do people have when it comes to the carrier dimensions? And does anyone have experience with United in particular?

The airlines typically do not measure the carrier. They will be concerned that your pet can stand up and turn around in it. Yours should be close enough to pass.

Does anybody know of a reliable and safe ground pet transport. We are moving from Pennsylvania to New Mexico. Thanks!

You can try IPATA.org for a licensed pet transporter. UShip can transport pets, but we have heard some disappointing stories. Try googling.

You can search for a licensed pet transporter at IPATA.org. uShip will also ship pets by ground, but cannot recommend them as reviews are mixed.

Airlines would not be concerned about the type of carrier you are choosing. They would rather look for the fact that, your dog is comfortable or not. Or, the dog is able to stand, and move freely inside that carrier or not.
