I usually book hotels through PetsWelcome (travelsites.com/travel-with-pets/ ) while I'm going to travel with pets. I travel regularly with two Scottish Terriers. Usually pet friendly hotels aren't glamorous places to stay, but I have found that they serve the purpose of a safe, clean and pet friendly stop on a road trip. These hotels are franchised and some owners charge a fee, but it's usually minimal and on occasion, I've received a refund when I checked out.
