Hello we are moving to the Silicon Valley CA from Philadelphia PA. I am very concerned about the safety of my pets if the fly. I have a large breed female Akita who is currently (86 lbs) she has a little more growing to to but not much. She is well trained and does well with people and the car. I also have a male cat. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. I would love to hear from you that has flown with a large breed dog.

Re: Philly to San Fran with large breed (90 lb) Female Akita any suggestions comments
Your Akita will have to fly cargo and your cat may be able to fly with you in the cabin if their size permits. Find an airline that serves the entire route as the airlines will not interline pets. Be aware of the summer heat embargo as your airline will not transport a pet in cargo off the temperature exceeds 85 degrees.
Get your pets used to crates and carriers. This should be done as soon as possible. Your Akita will travel in an IATA compliant crate like these: https://www.pettravelstore.com/pet-crates/. Your cat will need an airline compliant carrier like these: https://www.pettravelstore.com/pet-carriers/. it really makes a difference.

Hi mary kate, I have a different spitz-type dog that is calm when he flies with me but I am not sure about the Akita , maybe you can get more information about the breed on this site, hopefully, it helps, if you have a general question about flying with a dog I can definitely help, have traveled 11 times already with my dog on the plane.
