  • Traveling to Uruguay

    Hi Everyone

We are looking at getting a Boston Terrier but we travel pretty much every other year to Uruguay with LAN CHILE. This is usually our flight itinerary.

    Toronto-NY (1 hr stop over)
    NY-Santiago
    Santiago, Chille - Montevideo, Uruguay

    OR

    Toronto-Miami
    Miami-Santiago
    Santiago-Chille

I am having a hard time figuring out if my dog can go on this flight. Also is there any paperwork needed?

    Thank you

    Re: Traveling to Uruguay

Lan does accept pets as checked baggage but you must call their reservations office to make a booking for the pet. It cannot be done online. Uruguay requires that your pet be vaccianted for rabies at least 30 days prior to entering Uruguay and that it be accompanied by their certificate of good health. The airline will want to see the same certificate.

You will need to check with Lan Chile but they may require you to use the services of a licensed pet transport agent to take your pet out of Canada.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a banned breed but not the Boston Terrier.

Your pet must be vaccinated and a blood titer test administered no sooner than 30 days prior to entry. An Import Certificate is also required. You can fine instructions and forms for taking a pet to Saint Lucia here: http://pettravelstore.com/products/Pet-Passport-Saint-Lucia.html.

                  Re: Traveling to Uruguay

It is a bit complicated to take a pet to Saint Lucia. You will need an Import Permit as well as a Blood Titer Test administered at least 30 days after the vaccination is given. There is a veterinary certificate required as well as a treatment for fleas and ticks given within 48 hours of entry. Your pet must be transported as air freight into Saint Lucia and have no contact with any other animals on the flight.
